AB + ZU : German for “to and from” , “here and there” , “sometimes” , and “occasional”.

AB+ZU believes that good design comes from the collection of experiences. Having an understanding of different places and cultures from the past and the present informs our understanding of how people experience the spaces they’re in. AB+ZU looks to the past, the present, and the future to create engaging spaces which reference the familiar to evoke feelings anew.

Having relocated from Berlin and now based in Toronto AB+ZU is a design studio run by husband and wife team Kyla Boyle and Jeremy Caulfield.  As an interior designer, Kyla was brought to Berlin with the attraction of rebuilding a formally broken city, rich with history and culture.  She opened Aunt Benny cafe as a place to showcase her work.  The business grew to multiple entities in the hospitality field, as well and offering interior design services, event planning, and restaurant consultation.  Jeremy’s career as a graphic designer, record label owner, dj, and producer brought him to Berlin and its club scene.  From there he was able to travel the world many times over bring back stories, art, recipes, and a wealth of information about people and places he visited.

AB+ZU offers this expertise to clients looking for residential and commercial interior design, restaurant and hospitality consultation, and branding strategies.
